MINIM
A dispersion delay. Spread frequencies across time while staying in tempo.

Different frequencies, different times
A delay plays your sound back later. MINIM splits it into up to 16 bands and plays each one back at a different time, locked to the tempo. One knob, Spread, decides how far apart they land and which end arrives first. A snare becomes a fill. A chord becomes a run of its own partials.
The payoff is on the first repeat, not the twelfth. Feed the dispersed sound back into itself and every pass rearranges the last. Play some of the bands backwards, smear them, shift each pass a few hertz, or chop the repeats into blobs that ring droplets in the key you are playing.
The ones that do the work
| Control | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Time | 20 ms to 2 s | Synced to the tempo in straight, dotted or triplet divisions, or free in milliseconds. |
| Spread | −100 to 100 % | How far apart the bands arrive, as a share of the delay time, and which end comes first. |
| Shape | Even, Curve, Arch, Seed | The curve the arrivals follow, or a pattern from one of 64 seeds. |
| Bands | 4, 8 or 16 | How many arrivals there are. |
| Grid | 0 to 100 % | Free arrivals smear a hit; snapped to the grid, one hit becomes a run. |
| Feedback | 0 to 100 % | How much comes round again. 100 holds. |
| Compound | 0 to 100 % | What comes round: the plain repeat, or the dispersed one. |
| Reverse | 0 to 100 % | How much of the spectrum plays backwards, from the top down. |
| Smear | −100 to 100 % | The arrivals tilted continuously instead of band by band. |
| Shift | −20 to 20 Hz | Each pass moved in frequency once more than the last. |
| Width, Ping-pong | 0 to 100 %, on or off | Each band placed across the stereo field by when it arrives. |
| Bubble, Drops | 0 to 100 % | The repeats chopped into blobs on the grid, each ringing a short plucked tone at a note you are playing. |
| Low cut, High cut, Freeze, Duck, Mix | What every delay has. Freeze holds the pattern and lets you play over it. |

Hosts
I’ve tested it in:
- Ableton Live 12
- Apple Logic Pro
- FL Studio 20 or later
- REAPER
- Tracktion Waveform 14
It’ll probably work fine in:
- Ableton Live 10 or later
- Bitwig Studio 4 or later
- Steinberg Cubase 10 or later
- PreSonus Studio One 5 or later
- Reason 13 or later
- Any other DAW that loads VST3, AU or CLAP
It won’t load in Pro Tools, which only takes AAX.
If it gives you trouble in your DAW, email support@nonsense.audio and I’ll consider taking a look.
One email when each one’s out. Nothing else.
